Whoever has dementia, and while so much has changed, I know she’s still in there. I see it in her eyes, in the way she reaches for my hand, in the quiet moments when her presence says more than words ever could. She needs me now in ways she never did before, and I will always show up for her — just as she showed up for me my whole life.

I miss the conversations we used to have, the way she would laugh, the advice she would give without me even asking. I miss her. And yet, I hold on to the truth that she is still my mother, and I am still her daughter. Our bond hasn’t disappeared — it’s just changed.

Alzheimer’s and dementia may take memories, but they can’t take love. And I will carry that love for her, for us, every single day. 💜
