The Omicron variant of COVID-19 made its first domestic appearance on Wednesday, with one recorded case, a person who had traveled to South Africa and mildly symptomatic, being found in California. The news was enough to send stocks into a tailspin — again — and stoke new fears about efforts to contain the virus’ spread (i.e. mandates, restrictions and, perchance, more lockdowns).
Today we will hear more from President Biden on more restrictions. Word has it that, the federal mask mandate, originally set to expire on January 18th, will reportedly be extended through at least March 18th.
Reuters, which broke the story, does not name its source, but when the mandate was extended the first time, airlines were informed of the extension on a call which included officials from the:
- Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
